A Tale of Modern Nature: St Therese Chapel at Hamilo Coast

The architecture of the different structures in Pico de Loro Cove
were carefully planned to fuse with the cove's natural
topography and features.
Hamilo Coast is a place of many stories — brimming from its vast, pristine coastline that opens up to rich marine life and abundant flora and fauna. The stories also traverse from all of the beach resort town’s 13 coves that reach out to the West Philippine Sea: each one as breathtaking as the other.

As much as it is a showcase of nature’s beauty, Hamilo Coast also presents structures carefully masterplanned to seamlessly fuse with its natural topography and features. Perched atop Hamilo Coast’s maiden community, Pico de Loro Cove, the St. Therese of the Child Jesus Chapel is a sight to behold. The glass enclosure frames panoramic views of the cove and the infinity of sea into an artwork of paradise waiting to be appreciated from afar. The chapel is also a product of sustainable features where solar power-assisted air conditioning units are utilized, and the architectural design is made sure to maximize natural light, adding ambience to an already charming backdrop.

My Quick Summer Getaway at Hotel Jen!

I just finished with my graduation rites last Friday which I also squeezed in a meeting in the morning and an event at night. I believe I deserve a little rest and recreation before I go back to work on Monday and also face the upcoming holy week.

It was just in time that I decided to take an overnight stay at Hotel Jen located along Roxas boulevard and also just across CCP. Hotel Jen is formerly Traders Hotel which is now under a new brand Hotel Jen which is part of the Shangri La Hotels and Resorts. The building was renovated with a more modern look with some of the classic design preserved that actually works.

Turtle Hatching Season In Hamilo Coast

The coves of Hamilo Coast are a frequent nesting ground
of sea turtles –particularly the Olive Ridley,
one of the five species of marine turtles found in the Philippines.
Hamilo Coast, SM Prime’s sprawling coastal community located in Nasugbu, Batangas is home to diverse marine resources. One of the abundant naval species thriving in Hamilo Coast are marine turtles, particularly the Olive Ridley sea turtles. Though they are the most abundant among marine turtle species, they are listed as “vulnerable” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) because of the recent decline in the nesting of female Olive Ridleys.

Just last February 2017, a total of 147 Olive Ridley sea turtle eggs hatched on the pristine white sand beach of Santelmo Cove, Hamilo Coast’s main marine sanctuary. The eggs were laid early this year and were closely monitored by the Hamilo Coast Sustainability Team, until they hatched and were strong enough to swim back to the sea. With its coves as frequent nesting grounds of marine turtles, Hamilo Coast is dedicated to the regular monitoring of these species’ activities as part of its sustainable efforts in marine conservation.

Welcome relief for OFWs coming home for the Holidays

OFWs have long enjoyed travel tax exemption privileges under Section 2 of PD 1183, due to their significant contribution to our national economy. During the previous Holiday season though, and in Holiday Seasons past, those who wished to take advantage of their travel tax exemption had to obtain a certificate from the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), for which there was a fee. This Holiday Season will be the first in which OFWs will no longer need to pay for and obtain a separate Travel Tax Exemption Certificate.

When leaving the country for their country of employment after this year’s holiday season. OFWs can be exempted automatically from travel taxes in one of two ways: If they were hired through the POEA, the Overseas Employment Certificate issued by the POEA will serve as the Travel Tax Exemption Certificate. For those hired directly by companies abroad, a Certificate of Employment issued by the Philippine Embassy / Consulate in the place of work or an Employment Contract authenticated by the Philippine Embassy / Consulate.

No more falling in line at the airport just to pay your travel taxes, now it can be done via this simple procedure: Go to the TIEZA website at http://tieza.gov.ph/ (or: http://www.phtraveltax.com/cgi-bin/tieza.cgi) , from there you can open an account via a short registration procedure. The default home screen is the Travel Tax Online Payment System, to begin the process, simply click “click here”. The TIEZA home screen is not static, and the main image changes, should the main image cycle to different image, you won’t need to wait for it to cycle back, just click the “Travel Tax” tab, and select “Pay Travel Tax” in the dropdown, this should bring you to the login screen. First timers should click on “Don’t have an account? Click here”, this will bring up the registration screen. The registration screen will ask for very basic information, including your email address. Be sure to fill in an address you have access to at the moment you register, as you will need to confirm your registration via email. Finally, you will get a pop-up summary of the information you provided, and be asked to click “OK” to confirm.
