Empowering Staff for Success: Key Takeaways from Araneta City’s Seminar on Retail Management

In today’s fast-paced retail environment, customer expectations are higher than ever—and frontline staff are at the heart of meeting them.

This was the central theme of the latest free seminar hosted by Araneta City in partnership with the J. Amado Araneta Foundation (JAAF) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on August 8 at The Hub in Cyberpark Tower 1.

Leading the discussion was entrepreneur and sales coach Ruben Lanot, who shared practical insights on how retail teams can elevate the in-store experience and build lasting customer relationships.

He highlighted the important role that frontline retail staff play in a business, directly influencing customer experience, sales, and loyalty through service and product knowledge. “More than just employees, frontline retail staff are the living, breathing representation of a business, and its success greatly depends on their ability to connect with customers,” Lanot said.

Elevate your moviegoing experience at Gateway Cineplex 18

There’s nothing like going to the movies. As the lights dim and as the screen comes alive, you are instantly transported to new worlds. There you experience a plethora of stories and experience different lives. It is escape, exploration, and discovery all at the same time. It allows us to delve into our shared human condition—deepening our understanding and broadening our horizon. It is nothing short of magical.

And that transformative power of cinema is exactly what’s celebrated at Gateway Cineplex 18.

“Movies are a way to escape, but they also bring us together and connect us with one another,” Irene Jose, COO of Uniprom Inc. said. “We know our moviegoers want to be immersed in the story, which is why we’ve made it a point to deliver an exceptional cinema experience. And now, we’re taking it even further by introducing unique, first-of-its-kind concepts here in the country.”

Norjan Abass Opens Maria: A Kaleidoscope at Gateway Gallery

The exhibit “Maria: A Kaleidoscope” is an exploration in presenting the traditional image of the Filipina in Filipiniana attire by artist Norjan Ismail Abbas. Moving further along his “Talukbong at Tapis” 2024 exhibit, Maria is a focused exploration into the “Alternative Filipiniana.”

For this exhibit, “kaleidoscope” refers to the different images/roles of the Filipina at a certain historical period, probably at the turn of the 20th century or post-American period, as seen in these images. In Maria, one can glean the iconic women of Fernando Amorsolo’s paintings: images of women bathing in rivers, women selling in the town plaza, and women going to church.

Abass, in this second iteration, utilizes the abstract, the modernist, and Fauvist-inspired styles (though most of the pieces are in muted colors) in the representation of the Filipina with a strong emphasis on her garb. It is a re-imagination of the nostalgic colonial Filipina using a contemporary lens.

Araneta City stresses customer-centric marketing strategies in free seminar for tenants

Delivering real value to customers is the key to business success. This was the central message of marketing strategist and educator Jerry Yao during Araneta City's free seminar for its lessees held on May 16 at the Gateway Cineplex 15 of Gateway Mall 2.

Yao, also known as “The Marketing Sensei PH,” discussed in the seminar some marketing basics, reinforcing the importance of customer-centric marketing strategies in today’s competitive landscape. He also shared marketing tips and tricks that will help businesses maximize profitability while providing better customer experiences.

Yao began his presentation with a discussion on value, defined in marketing as a customer-perceived difference in a brand’s product or service when compared to those offered by competitors. He said that one easy way for businesses to identify value for customers is by asking themselves why a customer should buy from them.
